Villa Maija Renovation Main Hall

The renovation of Villa Maija is progressing, will be ready in end of 2022

The renovation of Villa Maija is progressing. When the project is ready – in the end of 2022, as it now seems – there will be six apartments (each with 2-3 rooms), which are suitable for longer accommodations around the year.

An important step in the project took place in October when the villa was emptied, whereafter work on the interior could commence. All three floors are now opened up to the structures, which makes it possible to make all plans more precise, taking us again further to the next phase of the project.

We are talking about a complete renovation, in which all tech is renewed: electricity, data, heating, air conditioning, water and pipes. Fire safety is taken to a higher level, which means better fire insulation and a sprinkler system. When building the interior, we are also improving the acoustics of the entire building.

Old furnaces and other structurally important old details will naturally be preserved. The facade of the villa will be completely renewed. Even doors and windows will be renovated and all valuable old parts will be preserved to the extent that it is possible.

An important part of the project is that the third floor will be taken back into usage. The villa is originally built as a three-story house, but the third floor has been out of use for a long time due to fire safety, among other things.

At the same time as our plans have become more precise, it has become evident that all apartments will not be ready by the summer of 2022, which we originally had hoped for. Therefore, we can unfortunately not take bookings for the next summer. This is unfortunate, but in a project of this magnitude there are many stages and challenges that simply take time.

We will inform more about the project and when Villa Maija will open again for guests during the winter. Our ambition is to make Villa Maija – one of the most famous historical villas in Hanko – more versatile in the future, even outside of the summer season. We are also developing Villa Maija’s services so that they can meet the growing demand, not just regarding vacation travel, but also for remote working in an inspiring and beautiful environment, close to nature.

We wish everyone a wonderful autumn and we’re happy to answer any questions you might have regarding the project and the future of Villa Maija.
